Payment & Refund Policy

1. About TipJapan

TipJapan is a digital tipping platform that allows restaurant guests to send tips to staff via QR code and mobile payment (Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit card). TipJapan is operated in Japan and processes payments through Stripe.

2. Payment processing

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. TipJapan does not store your credit card information. By completing a payment, you agree to the following:

  • Tips are voluntary, optional, and made at your sole discretion.
  • The payment amount you select is charged in Japanese Yen (JPY).
  • Your card issuer may apply currency conversion fees for non-JPY cards.
  • By tapping Pay or authenticating with Apple Pay / Google Pay, you authorize the charge.

3. Refund policy

Tips processed through TipJapan are non-refundable under normal circumstances because:

  • Tips are voluntary gratuities, not purchases of goods or services.
  • Once processed, funds are transferred to the restaurant account.

Exceptions

  • Duplicate charges (the same tip was charged more than once)
  • Unauthorized transactions (your card was used without your consent)
  • Technical errors resulting in an incorrect charge amount

4. Payment errors & disputes

If you experience a payment error or believe you were charged incorrectly:

  1. Check your bank or card statement to confirm whether the charge was completed.
  2. Contact TipJapan support via email with: your email address, approximate date/time, amount charged, and description of the issue.
  3. We will investigate within 3 business days and respond with a resolution.
  4. If a refund is approved, it will be processed through Stripe and may take 5-10 business days to appear.

5. Consent

By completing a tip payment on TipJapan, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Payment and Refund Policy. This agreement is made at the point of payment.

7. Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of Japan. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court.
